20120814-253-morocco-fes

Bab Jdid (an overused name, to be sure) on the southern edge of the old town - not actually part of the old city wall, but a spanking new (mid 2012) construction that was funded by the Foundation Benjelloun Mezian.

If it looks nice, blame the photographer. Up close it lacks substance, perhaps because it's stuck in the middle of a canal (perhaps if we called it a moat ... ?) with a roundabout on one side and a carpark on the other, and the 'moat' gave off a smell that I believe could outlast religion.

The next image is of said moat, and carpark, but doesn't do the sensory overload, or even the plain old screwed up juxtaposition of these various civil structures and services, justice of course.
